Programs

Junior Achievement programs offer a wide variety of business people the opportunity to apply their expertise to the educational needs of our communities' students from kindergarten through the 12th grade in an effective fun way.  All needed materials and training are provided.  Although programs are on a volunteer basis, they promote staff development and are generally conducted during regular school hours.

Elementary School Program Themes (5 lessons)
Ourselves® (Kindergarten) uses compelling stories read aloud by the volunteer along with hands-on activities to demonstrate helping, working, earning, and saving. Students are introduced to basic personal economic issues and the role individuals play as workers, consumers, and family members.  
     
Our Families® (1st grade) emphasizes the roles people play in the local economy and engages students with activities about needs and wants, jobs, tools and skills, and interdependence.  
     
Our Community® (2nd grade) explores the interdependent roles of workers in a community, the work they perform, and how communities work. Students take part in activities that demonstrate the responsibilities of and opportunities available to citizens in their economic community.  
     
Our City® (3rd grade) studies careers, the skills people need to work in those careers, and how businesses contribute to a city. Students conduct business operations, make city-planning decisions and examine economic development issues.  
     
Our Region® (4th grade) introduces the relationship between the natural, human, and capital resources found in different regions and explores regional businesses that produce goods and services for consumers.  
     
Our Nation® - Newly Revised! (5th grade) provides practical information about businesses' need for individuals who can meet the demands of the job market. Further it introduces the concept of globalization as it relates to resources and careers, and the need for students to be entrepreneurial in their thinking to meet the requirements of business world.  
     
JA Global Marketplace® (6th grade) studies what make international trade work and how it affects students' daily lives. Students will learn about the six key economic aspects of world trade and use these to analyze historical events and contemporary international business concepts and practices (6 lessons)  
Middle School Program Themes (6 lessons)

JA Economics for
Success
(7th grade) students explore their skills, interests and values, and the world of work to make informed education, career and life decisions. They will also learn about budgets, the use and abuse of credit and financial risks.  
     
JA It's My Business! (6th-8th grade) teaches middle grades students entrepreneurial skills through innovative activities that focus on filling a need, knowing your customer and product, being creative and innovative, and believing in yourself.  
High School Program Themes (5-8 lessons)
JA Success Skills (9th-10th grade) teaches students the skills and personal characteristics needed to excel in school, careers, and the community. There is an emphasis on interpersonal skills, teamwork, career and academic goals, resumes, interviewing, and communication. Students learn concepts such as building trust, conflict resolution, questioning, and listening responsively. (7 lessons)  
     
JA Titan (11th-12th grade) innovative business simulation designed to let budding young entrepreneurs manage a virtual business as a team. The success of the business is based on how well students manage such key issues as setting prices, production levels, marketing, capital investment, and investing in research and development. JA Banks in Action (11th-12th grade) provides students with the challenge of operating a bank in a competitive environment that simulates the real banking world while also learning personal finance from a consumer's point of view. With the help of a computer and the volunteer, the students must thoroughly understand each element of banking - interest rate on savings, credit, deposit certificates, and term loans as well as expenditures for marketing and research and development. JA Financial Literacy (11th-12th grade) gives students hands-on experience in financial planning with guidance from a JA volunteer. Coincides with the NEFE HS Financial Planning Program, but can also be used separate to help students have a complete portfolio of skills to make financial decisions and set personal financial goals throughout their lives. (5 lessons)  
     
JA Be Entrepreneurial (11th-12th grade) challenges students to start an entrepreneurial venture while still in high school.  While eveloping the essential components of a business plan, students learn myths and facts about entrepreneurship.  They also learn how to develop a successful product or service idea by analyzing market needs and competitive advantages, and study business ethics in a case-study format.  (7 lessons)  

In all class programs there is a special emphasis placed on staying in school and the relationship between learning and earning.
