WHAT IS JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT?
Junior Achievement is the world’s largest and fastest growing non-profit economic education organization that prepares young people for the world of work. Junior Achievement’s programs are taught by volunteers from the community in the United States and more than 100 countries worldwide. Core Purpose To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Program Overview Junior Achievement programs offer a wide variety of business people the opportunity to apply their expertise to the educational needs of our communities’ students from kindergarten through the 12th grade in an effective and fun way. Programs use age-appropriate curricula to teach elementary students about their roles as individuals, workers, and consumers and to prepare middle and high school students for key economic and workforce issues they will face. Programs are offered both during the school day, directly in the classroom, as well as in after-school settings. Volunteers Trained volunteers visit the classrooms for about 45 minutes once a week for 5 to 10 sessions depending on the grade level. The volunteer uses his/her own experience in conjunction with the JA curriculum to teach about business principles, decision-making and critical thinking skills. Junior Achievement provides all materials, training, and volunteer support. Statistics During the 2006-2007 academic year, Junior Achievement of Dallas is projected to inspire more than 38,000 students in 2,050 classrooms and community-based after school programs throughout the Dallas area. Worldwide, Junior Achievement reaches nearly seven million students in over 100 countries.
